The Executive Director, Digital Transformation and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Olumbe Akinkungbe, has highlighted some of the endeavours of the Federal government in combating cyber attacks.
Speaking to newsmen, Akinkungbe was responding to the question on what the government and private sector should do to better cyber security Nigeria.
He said that government agencies and the private sector is collaborating while various organizations are doing their own bit.
“The federal government has the National Cyber Security Act, which is currently under review by the National Assembly. The Nigerian Communications Committee Commission has its own policy document. There are various security operation centers that are built all around the country. I know there are several in Lagos, there’s a few in Abuja.
“But a lot of these things are working in silos. So the reality is, there must be, and that’s why we’re here today. There must be collaboration. People must speak to each other. So it’s the sum of all parts, not just one singular person,” he said.
He added, “For us to be able to achieve that, we work extensively with the Security Services Office of the National Security Advisor, the Department of security services, as well as the armed forces.
“It’s also important to note that most of these services also have been categorized as critical national infrastructure based on the cyber crime policy document that recently came out from the Office of National Security Advisor.”
Our correspondent reports that the government is introducing plans to collaborate with private sector operators and industry stakeholders to establish a National Cybersecurity Coordination Council, which aims to safeguard the nation’s rapidly expanding digital economy from emerging cyber threats.
This initiative was revealed by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, in Abuja on Wednesday.
