The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nentawe Yilwatda has said that there is no automatic ticket for National Assembly members who would contesting on the party’s platform in 2027.
He said the APC does not guarantee that, dismissing speculations that the party is considering automatic tickets for the lawmakers.
The APC Chairman said this during his appearance before the Nigerian media on Wednesday alongside the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka.
“There is no automatic ticket in our constitution. The party cannot promise an automatic ticket,” the APC chairman said.
He stressed that both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act clearly define how candidates must emerge.
“There’s no automatic ticket in our constitution. The constitution of the party does not provide for automatic ticket, and the party cannot wishfully promise automatic ticket to anyone,” he stated.
He added that the Electoral Act does not recognise such a provision.
“The Electoral Act also does not provide for automatic ticket. It says all primaries must be either by consensus or by direct primaries,” he said.
According to him, all aspirants within the party would be subjected to the same process without exception.
“All members of our party will undergo the same process. We will use the Electoral Act, our party guidelines, and constitution to get people to participate in primaries,” he added.
The APC chairman noted that performance would be a deciding factor for those seeking re-election.
“The people and party members will judge those who have performed very well,” he said.
