Vice President Kashim Shettima said that the new tax reforms will remove the heavy burden of many taxes and fees that small businesses and low-income people in Nigeria have to pay, which will help reduce poverty.
Shettima said that the planning and carrying out of the tax changes were done in a thoughtful way to make people’s lives better, even though some political opponents said otherwise.
The Vice President talked for President Bola Tinubu at the interfaith event where people broke their fast for Ramadan and Lent, which took place at the State House.
He mentioned that the government truly cares about the struggles of Nigerians and is putting out new policies to help a lot of people get out of poverty without making their situation worse.
“The same people who are yelling so much that the tax reform is meant to destroy and leave the poor even worse off are not telling the truth, but we need to go out and share the real truth with the people,” he said.
“We have to educate them. “We need to put up the pulpits and take our government to the Nigerian people and tell them the truth,” he said.
Shettima talked about some of the benefits from the economic reforms. These included more money in the country’s foreign currency reserves, simpler rules for exchanging money, and ending a subsidy that had helped only a small group of people for a long time.
He mentioned that President Tinubu deserves praise for having the bravery to tackle problems that previous leaders did not deal with.
