The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida has once again said that the Commission is fully committed to moving forward with Nigeria’s digital transformation plans.
Dr. Maida shared this during the recent Enugu Tech Festival, where he talked about the event as an important place to show off innovation, creativity, and the big progress happening in Nigeria’s tech scene.
He mentioned that the lively environment and various technology options at the event show the country is moving steadily towards a more digital economy.
He said that Nigeria has a lot of potential to become more competitive on the world stage by having a regulatory system that keeps up with changes and supports innovation, while also protecting the interests of consumers.
He said the growth in the telecom industry came from planned changes, smart policies, and strong systems meant to encourage competition, draw in investments, and protect customers.
Dr. Maida also praised the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for presenting a clear and strategic plan to speed up digital development in the state, and she called the initiatives impressive and in line with the country’s overall digital plan.
He also said that the Commission, along with important stakeholders, is now looking at the National Telecommunications Policy (2000) to create a new, inclusive, and consumer-centered framework.
He explained that the new policy will cover new technologies and changing trends in innovation, making sure the industry stays strong and ready for the future. Dr. Maida praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which was carried out by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.
He said that the ongoing support from the current government has helped Nigeria reach over 179 million active mobile users, showing how consistent reforms and strong leadership in the sector have made a big difference.
He told the stakeholders that the Commission will keep working to create a good environment that helps with investments, encourages new ideas, and ensures digital growth is available for everyone across the country.
