President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Vice President Kashim Shettima to head a top-level group from the Federal Government to visit Kano.
The purpose of this visit is to show sympathy and offer support to the people who were affected by the fire at the Singer Market.
The group planned to leave Abuja tomorrow to express President Tinubu’s sympathy to the traders who lost a lot of money in the fire that happened over the weekend at the market.
This is the second such incident in just two weeks. The group will also promise, on behalf of the government, to provide money to help the people who were affected and to support Kano State in getting the market back up and running quickly. The delegation includes the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; Senator Kawu Ismaila; and a representative.
Abubakar Kabir Bichi is the chairman of the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard M. Doro and Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who is the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), are also part of the team.
President Tinubu, who had previously talked on the phone with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, shared his sympathy with the traders and the people of Kano State after a big fire happened.
A fire began on Saturday evening and lasted into Sunday morning, causing a lot of damage to Nigeria’s biggest food market. The President was very worried because the latest incident happened just under two weeks after a fire had already damaged many shops and property at the same market.
He has done a full check into why the market fires keep happening, and these fires are still making traders very upset.
