The Nigerian Army has reported that its Sector 2 troops, part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully neutralized a terrorist, rescued three individuals who had been kidnapped, and seized a stockpile of arms, equipment, and supplies during ongoing counter-banditry operations in Zamfara State.
According to the army, these successful operations took place across the Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of their continuous efforts to eradicate banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
Security sources revealed that on June 12, 2026, troops on a combat patrol covering the communities of Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi Local Government Area encountered a group of terrorists operating in Yanbuki District.
In the subsequent firefight, the troops engaged the criminals and neutralized one terrorist. Recovered items from the scene included rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.
The sources indicated that the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa. However, upon realizing the superior firepower and resolve of the advancing troops, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled before the troops could reach them.
The troops then cleared the area and completely destroyed the terrorists’ camp, thereby denying the criminals a safe haven for future operations.
In a separate operation, troops on a routine patrol successfully ambushed terrorists along the Shinkafi – Moriki axis. During this encounter, one terrorist was neutralized, and troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, one Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and various charms.
It is noteworthy that the troops successfully rescued three kidnapped victims during these operations. The rescued individuals are currently receiving necessary care, and efforts are underway to reunite them with their respective families.
