The Nigerian Army said troops operating in the Tsamaye general area of Sokoto State have apprehended six individuals suspected of vandalism and recovered a stolen electric transformer during a security operation aimed at safeguarding critical national infrastructure.
Military sources revealed that the operation was executed following reliable intelligence regarding the activities of suspected vandals within the local communities.
Acting promptly on the information received, the troops carried out a focused operation that resulted in the arrest of six individuals believed to be involved in the theft and vandalism of public utility installations.
During the course of the operation, the troops seized an electric transformer that is suspected to have been stolen from a nearby community. This transformer was discovered in the possession of the suspects and has since been secured by the military while further investigations are conducted.
Security sources indicated that the suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing interrogation to determine the extent of their involvement in the crime, as well as to identify other members of the vandalism network operating in the vicinity.
The recovery of the transformer is anticipated to alleviate concerns among residents who have been impacted by interruptions in electricity supply due to the actions of vandals targeting power infrastructure.
Military authorities have reiterated their dedication to protecting critical national assets and have cautioned criminal elements against engaging in acts of sabotage that could undermine public services and economic activities.
Residents have also been encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to assist ongoing efforts to combat vandalism, theft, and other forms of criminality throughout the state.
