The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, has dismissed as false a report claiming he threatened to “teach” President Bola Tinubu a bitter political lesson over the detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Mba, the deputy governor described the publication titled “2027: Abia State Govt Will Teach Tinubu A Bitter Lesson Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention Deputy Governor Emetu” as fabricated and a deliberate misrepresentation.
According to the statement, “The report in question is entirely false, lacks verifiable context, and fails to provide essential media attributes such as the date, venue, or occasion where such remarks were allegedly made.”
It stressed that no official event, interview, or press briefing exists where the deputy governor made the comments attributed to him.
The statement further clarified that at no time did Emetu threaten the president or make remarks about the 2027 elections or Kanu’s detention.
It noted that the language credited to him does not reflect his character or leadership style, emphasizing his commitment to civil discourse, democratic engagement, and issue-based politics.
While acknowledging that Kanu’s case remains a sensitive national issue, the deputy governor reiterated that such matters should be handled through lawful and constitutional means rather than threats or divisive rhetoric.
The statement also criticized the unnamed media platform for publishing what it called unverified and unethical claims capable of heightening political tension.
It concluded that Emetu remains focused on supporting the state governor in delivering good governance, advancing development initiatives, and strengthening democratic institutions in Abia.
