This is following the wave of mass killings in Katsina, Benue, and Kwara, where more than 200 people were slaughtered by suspected Fulani jihadist gunmen in the last 72 Hours, the Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state.
Under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the government directed the shutdown of all public and private primary and secondary schools, citing credible security intelligence of escalating threats against soft targets, particularly schools.
The directive took effect on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, and will run as an emergency mid-term break until Monday, February 16, 2026, subject to security clearance.
School proprietors have been warned not to announce alternative resumption dates, or risk losing their operating approvals.
Officials say the move is preventive, coming in the immediate aftermath of the Kwara bloodbath, where entire communities were wiped out in coordinated attacks.
Security agencies have been ordered to track terror cells, secure school corridors, and dismantle criminal hideouts before any reopening is approved.
The government said it is acting now to ensure classrooms do not become the next killing fields, insisting that child safety is non-negotiable.
