The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line due to the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.
In a statement released on Friday, the company indicated that the incident took place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when the transmission line experienced a trip at approximately 5:38 PM.
TCN reported that an attempt to reclose the line was made at 6:03 PM, but it tripped once more immediately thereafter.
In response to this situation, TCN stated that its linesmen conducted a fault-finding patrol and identified the collapse of towers T109, T110, and T111 in Chibike village.
The company attributed the collapse to the severe rainfall and windstorm that affected the region.
TCN noted that this incident has interrupted the bulk power transmission to Niamey via the impacted line.
Nevertheless, the company assured that it has mobilized personnel and resources to the site to initiate the rehabilitation of the collapsed towers.
Furthermore, TCN emphasized that it is deploying all necessary resources to ensure the line is restored to service as swiftly as possible.
“TCN regrets any inconvenience this may cause to our customers in Niamey and assures that every effort is being made to restore normal supply promptly,” the statement concluded.
