Several students sitting the ongoing National Examinations Council, NECO, examinations and teachers have been kidnapped as suspected bandits on Monday reportedly attacked Lassa town in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which was said to have happened on a busy market day, resulted in the killing of one teacher.
The incident threw the community into chaos as heavily armed insurgents, said to be dressed in military camouflage and riding motorcycles, reportedly swept through the town unchallenged.
The latest incident has underscored the worsening security situation in parts of southern Borno, where communities continue to suffer deadly raids despite repeated military offensives against insurgent groups.
At the time of filing this report, the State Police Command, is yet to issue an official statement.
